Care, Maintenance and Rejuvenation of Livos Oils on Furniture

Whether at home or work, solid wooden furniture has a very special charm and brings warmth to any room. Even after many years, if your solid wooden furniture has been sanded and oiled correctly, it can still create a feeling of being timeless and beautiful; however, it requires the appropriate care and maintenance.
The maintenance routine will be dependent on the area the furniture is in, how it is used and how often. Kitchen furniture requires a customized treatment according to its usage. Therefore the treatment and care of different wooden surfaces should meet its specific requirements.
FOR TABLE TOPS AND WORK BENCHES AFTER THE FINAL OIL IT IS RECOMMENDED TO
Do not use the surface for 24 hours.
Avoid water totally for the first 4 weeks (the longer the better). If spillages occur, dry immediately, do not wash the surface in the early stages. This is necessary to allow the natural oil wax resin to harden and cure. Light and ventilation aids in the curing process.
CARING FOR SURFACES
A little sensible care will keep your timber surface a pleasure.
- Do not wash the surface in the early stages.
- Immediately remove any liquid spills.
- After the initial curing time, and for regular cleaning, surfaces may be wiped over with a slightly damp (not wet) cloth. Use only products that are suitable for cleaning and maintaining natural oil-finished timber.
- Do not use excessive water or leave wet clothes on the surface for an extended time.
- Avoid using harsh micro-fibre cloths. Please be aware that some Micro fibre cloths are extremely harsh and may strip the nutrients/oil from the surface. Cotton cloths are ideal.
- Do not use baking soda, ammonia, abrasive or harsh cleaners.
STAINS AND MARKS
Slight ink and water stains can be removed with the concentrated Trena Neutral Cleaner #556 or the Latis Intensive Cleaner #551. Place one or two drops of the cleaner on the stain and rub over the mark with a clean cloth. Wipe over. Leave to dry.
Alternatively, apply a few drops of the original oil to the surface. Rub into the area then wipe off excess.
REGULAR CLEANING
5 ml (1 tsp) of Livos TRENA PH Neutral Cleaner #556* (Concentrate) in 5litres of water. Avoid higher concentrations. This is a mild and effective cleaner, leaving the oil layer untouched. Place a few drops of TRENA PH Neutral Cleaner #556 in a one-litre spray bottle, dilute with water and spray lightly on the surface, wipe dry. No scrubbing is required.

REPAIRS
Deep penetrating stains or scratches may require sanding with fine sand paper, which has been wetted with a few drops of the original oil used. Alternatively, lightly sand the damaged area and reapply some of the original oil used. Wipe off excess.
REJUVENATION
If or when the surface looks matt or dry, apply a thin layer of the original oil used or the Kunos Maintenance Oil #1862. Wipe on; then wipe off excess after 10 minutes. It is recommended not to use the surface for 12 hours.
Keep any unused oil and decant into a smaller container with no oxygen for future rejuvenation purposes.
REJUVENATION OF OTHER FURNITURE
Apply a few drops of Gleivo Liquid Beeswax # 315 or Bivos Oil Wax #375 to the surface and buff in.
SAFETY INFORMATION
Always be sure to store cleaning rags, sponges, carpet remnants, etc. that are still wet or even slightly moist with Livos oils in an airtight metal container or in water, as there is a danger of spontaneous combustion caused by the linseed oil in the product. The product alone will not undergo spontaneous combustion.
