Care, Maintenance and Rejuvenation of Livos Oils on Decking

Exterior timber is exposed to a variety of stressing factors such as sun, wind, moisture and air pollution. Having applied the Alis decking oil correctly and following the correct maintenance, your deck will have a very long lifespan.

The maintenance routine will be dependent on various factors such as whether it is undercover, usage, type of timber and climatic conditions. This may range from 6 to 24 months. Treatment and rejuvenation of the deck should be carried out during drier months to ensure the timber is dry.

CARING FOR SURFACE

A little sensible care will extend the life of your timber and keep the surface a pleasure.

- Use only products that are suitable for cleaning and

- Avoid abrasive chemical products or materials.

- Rejuvenate before the timber greys off.

- Clean using a PH-neutral cleaner such as Livos Trena PH Neutral Cleaner #556.

- If the surface has been neglected and the timber has greyed off, clean using the Glouros Cleaner #1806, then apply two coats of decking oil on two consecutive days.

- If the timber has not been treated for a long period and is rough due to the elements, a light sand before the oil application may be beneficial.

REJUVENATION of Livos oiled decks.

Maintain with ALIS Decking Oil #579 in the stain colour that it was originally treated with, if or when necessary (once or twice annually to maintain the stain colouring).

Use an applicator, cloth or brush to apply a thin coat. Work in excess oil after 10 minutes.

REJUVENATION of non-Livos decks.

If the surface is badly worn and flaking off sanding is recommended (depending on screws and nails) If a modified oil has been used, scrub the area with a hard brush and rinse with a high-pressure cleaner. Ensure the timber is dry before oiling with ALIS Decking Oil #579. In 12 months repeat the process and reoil. This, plus time will break down the oil coating and will eventually result in an even look.

REPAIRS

Deep penetrating stains or scratches may require sanding with fine sandpaper, that is wetted with a few drops of the original oil used. Alternatively, lightly sand the damaged area and reapply some of the original oil used. Wipe off excess.

If timber repairs are necessary ensure you obtain the same species of timber as no amount of staining will make it match up.

SAFETY INFORMATION

Always be sure to store cleaning rags and applicators. that are still wet or even slightly moist with Livos oils in an airtight metal container or in water, as there is a danger of spontaneous combustion caused by the linseed oil in the product. The product alone will not undergo spontaneous combustion.
