Testing Kunos Countertop Oil # 243 on Ply Veneer

Various ply substrates are now popular for kitchen cabinets and even benches, so we are receiving increasing requests for information regarding the use of the Kunos counter top oil. Whilst we have had no issues with the Kunos natural oils sealer # 244 (that we tested several years ago) on ply and similar substrates, we have now also completed testings with the #243.

Here we applied 2 coats of the countertop oil. For testing purposes and to ensure as much penetration as possible, it was applied heavily and we did not remove the excess oil off the surface. It was also allowed to dribble over the edges to assess the cross-cut.

The oil layer eventually dried resulting in an expected bubbled surface.

Three weeks later, there is absolutely no cupping, separation or delamination of the surface.

Note. The countertop oil may be used over a previously oiled (with Ardvos or Kunos) surfaces as a finishing coat or as a standalone product. Three thin coats on consecutive days are the recommendation however many joiners and furniture makers have their own successful methods.
